                                                 Kindergarten Announcements March is Reading Month To kick off reading month we will have dress up days this week! Here is our schedule ELA Students read a nonfiction big book called Animals in Their Habitats and summarized important ideas using a graphic organizer.  We also learned about parts of a nonfiction book.  We learned how to use the Table of Contents and the Index. Letter Ee was our focus this week and practiced decoding with the medial /e/ sound. Our spelling words are: rap, cab, met, pen, let, ten Math   Students learned to show what happens in a story problem and solve it.  Students may distinguish between two groups by drawing pictures, separating the groups, using 2 different colors, using letters, words or numbers as labels.   Social Studies Toys are goods that children ...

    Kindergarten Announcements Thank you  We had SO MUCH fun during our 100th day and Kindness day parties! Thank you to the parents and grandparents who were able to be here to help! Thank you also to everyone who sent in items for snacks, games, and crafts. One of our boys said this was "the best Valentine's day EVER". The 100th day projects were so fun and creative! They will be coming home tomorrow. Thank you for all the time and work you and your child put in! Everyone has commented about how unique and 'cool' they all are! I have put the pictures of our parties in our shared Google photo folder! ELA Students learned to summarize what they see in pictures and read in books.  We also practiced fix-up strategies such as checking pictures and re-reading to clarify and better understand the text.   Our spelling words are: cup, hop, bat, bib, Bob, fat, fin, rap, rip Math   We learned to solve Put Together, Total Unknown sto...

                                 Kindergarten Announcements ELA We have now learned 4 of our 5 vowels, a, i, o, and u. We are practicing the short sound mostly but are also learning that there are many other sounds vowels can make. Point these out as you read books with your children. We will be starting something new to help us learn our sight words.  We have 6 lists of words, one for each color in the rainbow, going in order from red to purple.  When your child can read a whole list, he/she can color in that strip on a rainbow we have here at school.  When all the colors are colored in, on their rainbow, meaning that your child knows all of our Kindergarten sight words, they will bring home their rainbow and a pack of Skittles to celebrate.  We are going to be checking how they are progressing from now until the end of the year.  When your ch...

                            Kindergarten Announcements ELA Students continued making inferences this week by reading a Big Book called Katy’s First Day. Students used clues from the text and the pictures to better understand Katy’s character. Our spelling words are: hat, sap, bat, bib Math   Students learned to interpret expressions and connect expressions to story problems and drawings.  They also learned to find patterns when 0 and 1 are added to a number.   Writing Students continued with their Personal Narratives and learned to write about feelings.      Social Studies We are beginning to learn about basic economics by learning the difference between wants and needs, goods and services, and trades.   Science Force Olympics:  We listened to a story about a boy who learns the secret to knocking down pins during bumper bowling.   P2: Kindness W...
