Assessment

We finished up our NWEA tests last week and this week I will be spending some time one on one with each student doing their end of the year assessments. We will also be doing some whole class assessments as we prepare to send them on to 1st grade! Only 14 days of Kindergarten left!!!! All of your children have grown and learned so much this year. It is exciting to see how far they have come!

ELA

Readers are learning to draw conclusions using clues in a text and what they already know to figure out what the author does not state directly.  Drawing conclusions helps readers make sense of a text. Our spelling words are: fox, zap, zip, quiz, buzz, fuzz

Math

Students are counting out a given number of objects and determining the new amount if one more is added or if one is taken away.  Students count the objects each time or use their knowledge of the count sequence to determine the new amount.

Science:  Plant Needs: Animal needs and the changing environments

In our read along, Sam wonders why his grandmother wants to keep an old log in her yard—until he begins to meet a few of her friends. The lesson includes a short exercise where students pretend to be lizards eating ants, and discover why old logs are helpful to animals.

P2:  Other Person Mindset

The mission of P2 is to empower students to build positive relationships by understanding, appreciating, and exemplifying the character strengths in us all. People who have a strong “Other People Mindset” are able to build and maintain strong, positive relationships with others.
