                               Kindergarten Announcements

ELA

Students learned to make inferences using what they see in pictures and read in texts.  We used anchor posters to make connections with pictures before learning to find clues in text. We use inference every day, like when we figure out what to wear outside for the weather.


Math 

Students are developing their understanding of addition and subtraction as they represent and solve story problems. Students solved story problems by using drawings, numbers, objects, and actions. Finally they learned that “expressions” is the symbolic way to represent addition and subtraction.  


Writing

Students continued writing stories about something they have done. We call these personal narratives and these can be about something very exciting or very simple. See if your child remembers what they are writing about.


Science

Force Olympics:  students changed the strength and direction of a wrecking ball’s push in order to solve a problem. We will explore with this concept this coming week in centers.


P2: Identifying the good in others

Identifying and appreciating the good in other people helps you see the world through a more positive lens. And if you see the good in another, they are likely to see the good in you.


Valentine's Day 

We will be celebrating Valentine's Day with a kindness party on February 14th. We will NOT be doing a Valentine card exchange. If you are on the list to help with this party, a parent will contact you soon to help organize it.   


100th Day 

A letter came home on Friday about our 100th day of school on Monday, February 13th. We would love your child to bring in a collection of 100 things that we will display in the hallway for the week. (Please don't send in anything valuable as sometimes pieces unfortunately disappear). If you are on the list to help with this party, you do not need to prepare anything. Just come at 12:45 on that day and you will pick a center to help facilitate.

  Kindergarten News Thank you Thank you so much for all of the parents that were able to come to Sarett with us. We learned about different kinds of animals and what they do to get food and stay safe. We also took a walk and listened for birds, noticed plants, and looked for signs of animals. ELA This week students are identifying cause and effect in pictures and in text.  We learned that the words "if" and “so” are signal words to help us find “cause and effect”.  We also practiced making connections to deepen our understanding of the text.   Our spelling words are: yet, tip, vet, van, Val, hug Math   Students are identifying shapes as flat (2D) or solid (3D) as they build and sort shapes.  They are learning the names of common 3 dimensional shapes.  Students were also introduced to the language to compare weight and capacity.         Kindergarten Announcements Thank you for an amazing teacher appreciation week!  I definitely feel loved! Happy Mother's Day!!!! ELA We performed Reader’s Theater this week and used characters’ words and actions to determine what they like and how they feel. Then we read aloud using “expression” to show understanding of the text and the characters.  Our spelling words are: sip, did, mix, box, fox, wax Math   Students are building with a given number of solid shapes. They are also comparing how some 2D shapes and 3D shapes are alike and different. Additionally, we enjoyed estimating a group of items using clues to narrow down the possibilities.    Writing Our writing skills are growing so much as we write in our journals and tell about how we feel and things we have done.       Science:  Plant Needs: Water and Light This week, we learned that plants and animals are alive! ...

November 6th Newsletter

                                           Kindergarten Announcements Thank you! So much to Mrs. Everhart and all of the parents that helped out at the Halloween party!  You did such a great job creating a very fun day for us all!  The kids had such a great time and it was so nice to see so many of you during our parade. ELA This week we enjoyed reading The Three Little Pigs.  We reviewed the concepts of print, analyzed the characters of the pigs and the wolf, and retold the story by stating what happened at the beginning, middle, and end of the story.  We also read many different versions of the story and compared how they were the same and different. We decided if the wolf was really bad or just misunderstood! Math We learned to count and draw a given number of objects.  Writing We finished writing our list and label books this week and ...
