                                   Kindergarten Announcements

Ice Skating

We had a wonderful time ice skating on Friday! Everyone did so well and skated the whole time! Thank you to all of the parents that were there to help! It was so nice to be able to share this fun event with our families! We were also treated to a cup of hot chocolate when we were done.


Presents

The children have been very busy making presents to bring home for their families. These will be coming home tomorrow. Please look for these and enjoy their creativity and hard work!


Shoes

Now that it looks like the snow might be with us for awhile, please make sure your child has shoes at school every day so they don't have to wear wet boots all day!


Login Cards

Your child's login card for some of the websites we use in class is coming home today. Please keep this somewhere safe. The students are very familiar with Lexia and Happy Numbers. These are both accessible through Clever, which is available on the Lincoln Symbaloo. Here is a link: Lincoln Symbaloo. I have shown them how to use Raz-Kids, which is also available on the symbaloo, to practice reading books and answering questions about what they read. All of these sites are beneficial for them to work on but they need to work with minimal help. Each program has skills that increase in difficulty as the students become more proficient. If they are getting help, they will not be able to do more difficult tasks independently.


ELA

After reading several stories, we learned to analyze the story elements.  This includes identifying the characters, setting, problem, and solution. Identifying these elements will help us understand and appreciate the story better. It will also help us create our own stories. We also learned about the letter Ff and how to spell the words: man, mat,fan,fit,if,fin


Math

Our lessons this week allowed us to explore shapes by putting smaller shapes together to form larger shapes.  We used pattern blocks to create pictures and counted out how many of each shape we included in our pictures.   


Writing

We continued elaborating on our pattern books.  We will finish up these books and bring them home this week. Please take some time to let your child read through them with you. We will begin a new writing unit when we return from break.

  Kindergarten News Thank you Thank you so much for all of the parents that were able to come to Sarett with us. We learned about different kinds of animals and what they do to get food and stay safe. We also took a walk and listened for birds, noticed plants, and looked for signs of animals. ELA This week students are identifying cause and effect in pictures and in text.  We learned that the words "if" and “so” are signal words to help us find “cause and effect”.  We also practiced making connections to deepen our understanding of the text.   Our spelling words are: yet, tip, vet, van, Val, hug Math   Students are identifying shapes as flat (2D) or solid (3D) as they build and sort shapes.  They are learning the names of common 3 dimensional shapes.  Students were also introduced to the language to compare weight and capacity.         Kindergarten Announcements Thank you for an amazing teacher appreciation week!  I definitely feel loved! Happy Mother's Day!!!! ELA We performed Reader’s Theater this week and used characters’ words and actions to determine what they like and how they feel. Then we read aloud using “expression” to show understanding of the text and the characters.  Our spelling words are: sip, did, mix, box, fox, wax Math   Students are building with a given number of solid shapes. They are also comparing how some 2D shapes and 3D shapes are alike and different. Additionally, we enjoyed estimating a group of items using clues to narrow down the possibilities.    Writing Our writing skills are growing so much as we write in our journals and tell about how we feel and things we have done.       Science:  Plant Needs: Water and Light This week, we learned that plants and animals are alive! ...

November 6th Newsletter

                                           Kindergarten Announcements Thank you! So much to Mrs. Everhart and all of the parents that helped out at the Halloween party!  You did such a great job creating a very fun day for us all!  The kids had such a great time and it was so nice to see so many of you during our parade. ELA This week we enjoyed reading The Three Little Pigs.  We reviewed the concepts of print, analyzed the characters of the pigs and the wolf, and retold the story by stating what happened at the beginning, middle, and end of the story.  We also read many different versions of the story and compared how they were the same and different. We decided if the wolf was really bad or just misunderstood! Math We learned to count and draw a given number of objects.  Writing We finished writing our list and label books this week and ...
