 What an excellent first 

two weeks of Kindergarten!!! 

We have been so busy all day long learning new procedures and finding out more about our 26 new friends. 

Speaking of new friends...
We have two other "teachers" in the classroom besides me! Miss Jasmine Ehlert is with us all day. The kids call her Miss Jasmine. She is here for a specific student but of course she always helps out where and when she can! We are so fortunate to have such a loving, caring person in our room. We also have a high school teacher cadet, Olivia Ippel, who helps out in our class. She is here on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons. The kids call her Miss Olivia and she is another fun, caring adult in our class. We are so fortunate to have so many wonderful teachers in our class.

   Kindergarten Announcements

ELA

We had a great week reading more books about kindergarten.  We read The Big Orange Splot and used markers to decorate our own house to look like our dreams. We practiced rhyming and alphabet sounds and practiced the 3 ways to read a book.  We launched Daily 5 by building stamina for “Read to Self” and met our goal of reading for 10 uninterupted minutes!


Writing

We started journals this week. We learned where to write words and where to draw illustrations in our journal. We also learned that we need to draw pictures that match what our words say.  

Math

We noticed, wondered and explored a variety of math tools.  We worked with connecting cubes, pattern blocks, counters/5 frames, and geo blocks.


P2

We will spend this year learning how to build strong relationships with each other through our Positivity Project.  We will do this by practicing the “Other People’s Mindset” and learning about a different character strength each week.  




Upcoming events:

-NWEA Testing next week on Tuesday and Thursday.


-On Monday we will have a guest teacher, Mrs. Caplea, in our class in the morning so I can spend some time assessing the students one-on-one


-Our field trip to Dinges Farms is Monday, October 10th in 

the morning! More information will come home on this later.

  Kindergarten News Thank you Thank you so much for all of the parents that were able to come to Sarett with us. We learned about different kinds of animals and what they do to get food and stay safe. We also took a walk and listened for birds, noticed plants, and looked for signs of animals. ELA This week students are identifying cause and effect in pictures and in text.  We learned that the words "if" and “so” are signal words to help us find “cause and effect”.  We also practiced making connections to deepen our understanding of the text.   Our spelling words are: yet, tip, vet, van, Val, hug Math   Students are identifying shapes as flat (2D) or solid (3D) as they build and sort shapes.  They are learning the names of common 3 dimensional shapes.  Students were also introduced to the language to compare weight and capacity. May 14th Newsletter

        Kindergarten Announcements Thank you for an amazing teacher appreciation week!  I definitely feel loved! Happy Mother's Day!!!! ELA We performed Reader’s Theater this week and used characters’ words and actions to determine what they like and how they feel. Then we read aloud using “expression” to show understanding of the text and the characters.  Our spelling words are: sip, did, mix, box, fox, wax Math   Students are building with a given number of solid shapes. They are also comparing how some 2D shapes and 3D shapes are alike and different. Additionally, we enjoyed estimating a group of items using clues to narrow down the possibilities.    Writing Our writing skills are growing so much as we write in our journals and tell about how we feel and things we have done.       Science:  Plant Needs: Water and Light This week, we learned that plants and animals are alive! ...

November 6th Newsletter

                                           Kindergarten Announcements Thank you! So much to Mrs. Everhart and all of the parents that helped out at the Halloween party!  You did such a great job creating a very fun day for us all!  The kids had such a great time and it was so nice to see so many of you during our parade. ELA This week we enjoyed reading The Three Little Pigs.  We reviewed the concepts of print, analyzed the characters of the pigs and the wolf, and retold the story by stating what happened at the beginning, middle, and end of the story.  We also read many different versions of the story and compared how they were the same and different. We decided if the wolf was really bad or just misunderstood! Math We learned to count and draw a given number of objects.  Writing We finished writing our list and label books this week and ...
